There can be no doubt that the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen is a weekend of gastronomic indulgence, but did you know the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen supports two charity initiatives through ticket sales and Celebrity Chef Charity 5K (click here to read more about the race)?
The Jacques Pépin Foundation supports community kitchens that offer free life skills and culinary training to adults with high barriers to employment, including previous incarceration, homelessness, substance abuse issues, low skill and education attainment and lack of work history. Through network partners, Catalyst Kitchens and Feeding America, the JPF has identified over 100 community kitchens across the country dedicated to improving lives and strengthening communities through culinary training. These programs offer individuals free culinary and life skills training that leads to increased confidence, better health and more employment opportunities. The ultimate goal of the JPF is to discover every organization that does this work and to create a community that shares best practices and effective curricula. The other charity initiative supported by the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen is Wholesome Wave, a national nonprofit founded by Chef Michel Nischan that strives to create a vibrant, just and sustainable food system. By increasing affordable access to locally grown produce, Wholesome Wave inspires under-served consumers to make healthier food choices. Their innovative initiatives are improving health outcomes among low-income populations, generating additional revenue for small and mid-sized farms and bolstering local and regional economies.
